Her Excellency Dr. Shamma Khalifa Al Mazrouei is Acting Director General of the Mohamed bin Zayed Foundation for Humanity, where she leads the Foundation in its mission to advance human potential and opportunity. In this role, Dr. Shamma oversees the Foundation’s efforts to strengthen health systems and workforces; combat preventable diseases, and unlock opportunity for those who need it most.
Current programs include multi-year investments in health infrastructure, disease elimination – including polio, malaria, and neglected tropical diseases – and collaborative funds designed to uplift vulnerable communities such as mothers and babies.
Among the Foundation’s anchor initiatives is the Reaching the Last Mile Fund, a $600M multi-donor fund established by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, which seeks to accelerate the elimination of two neglected tropical diseases from Africa and Yemen by 2030.
A doctor of family medicine, Dr. Shamma brings to her role decades of experience in health and public service, with an emphasis on health systems strengthening. Prior to leading the Foundation, Dr. Shamma was appointed by the UAE Cabinet as Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Health Specialities, and she continues to serve on the boards of the UAE’s International Health Advisory Committee and Emirates Health Services Corp.
Dr. Shamma holds an MBBS from the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, UAE University, and is certified in Family and Community Medicine.
