How the END Fund will end neglected tropical diseases.
We focus on the six most prevalent NTDs that have proven cost-effective interventions: river blindness, lymphatic filariasis, trachoma, intestinal worms, schistosomiasis, and visceral leishmaniasis.
Intestinal worms (also known as soil-transmitted helminths) cause malnutrition, anemia, and poor physical and mental growth.
River blindness (also known as onchocerciasis) is an eye and skin infection caused by parasitic worms that leads to intense itching and vision loss.
Schistosomiasis (also known as bilharzia or snail fever) is a chronic disease caused by parasitic worms that live in freshwater snails.
Lymphatic filariasis (also known as elephantiasis) is a mosquito-borne disease that causes disfigurement and longterm disability.
Trachoma is a bacterial infection of the eye that can cause irreversible blindness. It is the leading cause of blindness due to infection worldwide.
Visceral leishmaniasis (also known as kala-azar) is a life-threatening disease caused by leishmania parasites, transmitted by female sandflies.
The END Fund manages a portfolio of programmatic funds to advance our vision to ensure that people at risk of neglected tropical diseases have the opportunity to live healthy and prosperous lives.
